A 30 cm (11.8 in) marble column made of two blocks, veined stone above and a paler section below that lets light through: by day the Syracuse marble column pendant light is simply a shaft of stone; by evening, its lower half glows like a night light.

The light gathers in the lower section and falls in a soft beam, so it works as mood lighting rather than general light. The veining changes from piece to piece, and the fitting is limited to a dark stem.
One size, 8 cm (3.1 in) across and 30 cm (11.8 in) tall: a strong vertical, present enough to stand alone above an entry console, narrow enough to repeat along a kitchen island or on either side of a bed.
