Jute rope crocheted in a spiral, its rounds tightening toward the top, forms the dome of this jute flush mount light, capped by a round canopy in solid wood. It sits directly on the ceiling, with no cord or rod.

Once lit, warm light filters between the coils of rope and lays a soft halo on the ceiling without harsh glare. The pale wood canopy softens the whole, where black metal would have cut a harder line. Two diameters are offered: 23 cm (9.1 in) for a hallway or entryway, and 30 cm (11.8 in) for a bedroom, kitchen or landing. Both are semi-flush, lighting the room without dropping into it.
Jute keeps its irregularities and shades, from sand to honey depending on the light. With the pale wood canopy, it suits washed linen, limewashed walls and terracotta in bohemian, Scandinavian or wabi-sabi interiors. Because each shade is assembled by hand, the regularity of the rounds varies slightly from piece to piece.
